Have you ever wonder what if we stop feeling pain and hunger? Can
we survive without sleep? Is it really possible? If your answer is no, then
this blog is going to baffle your mind.
This is story of a nine-year-old girl, Olivia Farnsworth, from Huddersfield
who feels no pain and can survive without sleep or food. This is why she
is named as "Bionic girl" by scientists.
Olivia's mother, Nikki Trepak, mention her as -“The Girl made
of Steel.”
Olivia Farnsworth is believed to be the only person in the
world to carry these three symptoms together. Because of her disorder,
she can survive for five to six days without sleeping and feeding. Her life is
is just an another example of biological syndrome with some unbelievable science
mystery. Since she has these superpowers, she became the source of attraction
for many researchers across the globe.
Olivia Farnsworth has a rare chromosome disorder that baffled the
medical professionals around the world. Her condition is described
as chromosome 6p deletion.
Strange incidents of her life:
In 2016, when Olivia was only 7-year-old, she once went out with
her Nikki Trepek(Her mother) and eventually got hit by a car and
dragged about 100 feet down the Street. After that horrendous accident, she
just got up and started walking back to her mother. She just
replied, “What’s going on?”
Because of the severeness of accident, she should have had severe
injuries. The accident was so hilarious that she got Tyre mark on
her chest. She also lost some skin from her toe and her hip, but still she
didn't shade not even a single tear. From that day she came in the focus of
medical researchers. The doctors started thinking about what saved her from
injury. The mother-of-five kids said the signs of Olivia’s condition started
when she was just a few months old. Olivia Farnsworth’s case mystified
doctors. They admitted that it is a rare disorder in medical history.
She also once fell badly in her house and ripped off her lip and
didn’t say a word to her parents. but after that, she had to have some major
plastic surgeries to correct it.
What are Chromosomes:
The human DNA is packaged inside the nucleus of each body
cell in the form of microscopic bodies known as chromosomes. They are
responsible for the making essential body proteins in order to keep us alive.
Chromosomes also transfer the genetic material from the parent to the offspring
during the process of cell division. The regions of the chromosome that
codes for particular protein are called as genes, giving the instructions that
control the cell’s function and reproduction. In simple words, the genes
controls all biochemical processes that makes us alive.
There are total 23 pairs of chromosome present in the human body
cell. Twenty-two out of 23 pairs are of autosomes, that are same in both
males and females.
The 23rd pair is of the sex chromosomes that differs between males
and females. Females contain two copies of the X chromosome, while males are
with one X and one Y chromosome.
What Is Chromosome 6 Deletion?
Chromosomal deletion results from the loss of parts of chromosome
or its arm. It is a abnormal condition in which the chromosome no. 6p is
deleted during the process of cell division. However, chromosomal deletion
syndromes usually involve larger deletions or a total pair deletion that are
visible on the karyotyping test.
There are numerous diseases and disabilities associated with a
single pair of chromosome deletion or loss of the specific genes-function.
Olivia’s Chromosome 6(the building material of DNA) is totally
deleted that usually spans more than 170 million base pairs. It signifies
between 5.5 and 6% of the total DNA in cells.
The
major portion of chromosome 6 is linked with the immune system. The immune
system provides power to the organism to fight against any infections. We can
feel the pain whenever a signal to the brain is given from the affected part of
our body.
Its a real big challenge
for her mother to feed her because she doesn’t get hungry. According to her
mom, she lived on just butter sandwiches for about a year.
Although she’s a joyful
child most of the time, Niki said that she could suffer from violent outbursts
from time to time.
The mother-of-five kids
said Olivia head-butted, kicked, and punched her, which can be embarrassing if
they’re out in public.

Ms. Niki Trepak is now raising awareness about chromosome 6
problems. She has been supported and encouraged by chromosome disorder support group Unique.
